WebVision

A full-featured 3D game engine for browser-based games

Unlike existing browser-based 3D rendering solutions, WebVision provides a full-fledged game engine with high-end graphics power, extensive scalability, a comprehensive toolset, multiplatform support, all the deep integrations offered by Vision Engine 8, and interfaces that allow both development in native C++ code and the scripting language LUA.

And better yet, WebVision is FREE for anyone licensing the Vision Engine.

Web-enable your games…faster

With WebVision, existing code based on the Vision Game Engine can be web-enabled in about a day by simply adding some additional files and including a set of WebVision-specific classes in the project.

Great things come in small packages

WebVision provides a content packager that can be used to split the downloadable game content into small packages based on automatically detected resource dependencies. This way, all files required for a specific game level can be packaged with a few mouse clicks. While playing the initial level of a game, subsequent level packages are automatically downloaded in the background in order to ensure a smooth gaming experience without long initial download times.

In addition, the packaging mechanism integrates seamlessly with Vision's powerful streaming system, allowing game developers to create large, dynamically streamed worlds in a web browser.

How it works

WebVision consists of two components: The browser front-end and the game back-end. The front-end is a lightweight browser plug-in, which takes care of all the communication between the browser and the game. It checks system requirements, downloads content and validates it before executing it, and handles versioning of critical DLLs. The back-end, in turn, is built into the game itself, which is executed by the front-end after download and verification.

System Requirements

WebVision will initially be available for PCs running Windows XP, Vista, or 7. It supports all common web browsers (IE6 and up, Firefox 2.0 and up, Chrome, Opera 9 and up). A CPU supporting ISSE is required (Athlon XP and up, Pentium 3 and up). The GPU needs to support Shader Model 2.0 (ATI Radeon 9500 and up, nVidia Geforce 5 series and up, Intel GMA950 and up). Users of Windows XP SP1 and earlier may have to have a version of the DirectX runtime installed.
